Voluntarily Retired: RHSP Mark Armstrong
---Armstrong was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2013 draft by the Reds. He pitched a combined 148 innings over 5 seasons, never advancing past high A. He underwent TJS in late 2015, missed all of 2016 rehabbing, and tried to come back in 2017 but re-injured himself almost immediately.
Signed for 2018: RHRP Rob Wooten (re-signed minor league contract), RHRP Jose Adames (re-signed minor league contract)
---Both of them would have qualified for free agency (Rule 55 - 6 year Minor League) five days after the world series. Adames, who was acquired via the minor league phase of the Rule 5 draft last year missed the entire season due to injury, and Wooten didn't play after May 11th due to injury.

Outrighted to AAA Louisville: RHRP Alejandro Chacin, RHRP Asher Wojciechowski, RHSP Nick Travieso
---Alejandro & Asher will qualify as six-year minor league free agents five days after the world series ends (Asher can actually elect FA right now since he's been outrighted once before).
---Travieso will stay in the Reds system, he does not qualify as a free agent, but he will be Rule 5 eligible later this off-season. He's recovering from from mid June TJS.

Kinsm, what would you say the chances are he’d be slected? Sounds like something the Padres would do. I assume that if he had any chance of making it back next year the Reds wouldn't have done it. In recent history, only the Braves have shown a willingness to take guys who are going to be out all year (remember you can stash him on the 60 day for a year but he still has to be on your 25 man the next or be offered back). I'd say it's a very small chance he's drafted. |
