It should be noted that Winker isn't racking up doubles either. It's not just HRs, he's not hitting for any kind of power at all. That will have to change. Surely it has to be related to coming back from a wrist injury, doesn't it?

I think at least average power shows up eventually. If Winker turns into a .280/.360 hitter with 15 HR and 30 2B for the Reds, he'll be a highly productive offensive player. As long as he isn't too slow running the bases, that'd be a fantastic #2 hitter.

I had some minor questions (but nitpicky, largely irrelevant) about how Jesse Winker would end his season, which he's now answered... -Would he hit .300+? He was under .300 for most of the final week. -Would he pull off a .400+ OBP? He was a little ways away from .400 (.380-ish) for most of the season. -Would he, indeed, walk more than he struck out? He seemed stuck around +2 strikeouts for much of the final week.
He ended up hitting .303, with 3 hits in his final game. The first time in 7 days he'd been above .300. Nice! He ended with a .397 OBP. In the last day of the season it reached the highest it was after May 13th. It's mildly unfortunate that he couldn't reach an even .400 (not that it matters), but it's actually a bit of a surprise that he made a late push to finish so darn close. He ended with 59 BB and 59 K in 448 PAs, with 2 BB and 0 K in his last 2 games.
Winker's worst month, by far, was May, when he hit .231 with a .349 OBP.
He hit .320 with a .415 OBP in 51 games after the All Star Break.
-Winker finished second in the International League in OBP, behind 25 year old Indians prospect Yandy Diaz. Winker and Josh Bell (24) are the only guys in the top 5 under the age of 25. Iraberran is 5th. -Winker was tied for 8th in the league with 59 BBs. The league leader had 90, second highest total was 66. -Winker was the only guy with more than 43 BBs and fewer than 63 Ks. Louisville teammate Jermaine Curtis (42 BB, 43 Ks) is the only other guy with 40+ BBs and nearly the same number of strikeouts. -Winker finished 7th in the International League in batting average behind Ben Gamel, Jesus Montero, Casey McGehee, Donovan Solano (28), Yandy Diaz (25), and teammate Hernan Iribarren (32). I wouldn't trade Winker for any of those guys, though.
It'll be interesting to see how Winker is ranked by national prospect rankings in the coming months.

The great Ben Lively, 24, won the 2016 Paul Owens Award as the Philadelphia Phillies' minor league pitcher of the year (well, top performer as a pitcher). He was ranked as the Phillies' #24 prospect by MLBPipeline, and the Reds traded him there for Marlon Byrd.
He went 18-5 and pitched 170.2 innings between AA and AAA this year with a 2.69 ERA, 118 H, 42 BB, and 139 Ks. He put up a 0.938 WHIP. He made 9 starts in AA before making his AAA debut, where he started 19 games with a 3.06 ERA.
He reached AA in 2014, AAA in 2016, but has yet to make his MLB debut. I'm a little surprised that they haven't called him up yet.

Lively pitched Lehigh's opener in the AAA playoffs.
The Phillies have a great many major league ready starters...Nola, Velasquez, Eickhoff, Morgan, Eflin, Thompson, Appel, Asher, Lively...good for them.

It was a considered a bad trade at the time we made it and it's still bad today, but I still get why they did it.
