I won't guess how much work or thought you put into it. Part of the point involves how we see other people's work. Often enough, we use terms that have no rational connection to it. I gave a personal example, but they're easy enough to find... Given their style of rebuild, the Reds really had to trade Cueto and Leake for value. There's probably at least agreement that they had to try to trade Bruce and Chapman. But there's no evidence to indicate that failing to do so reflects a lack of effort or work left undone... I was just having some fun. "God be praised!"

I think it's a virtual certainty that someone will come calling for Marlon Byrd before Aug 31. He's pretty much a lock to pass through waivers too, so at least one more deal probably gets done. Walt said yesterday the plan was to have DuVall play LF for Louisville to see if they could work with him on his defense there. His minor league numbers look decent and all, but he's benefited from some hitter friendly leagues too. His numbers this year in the PCL are good until you compare them to Brennan Boesch from last season and we not only have seen Boesch struggle with the bench role for the Reds but also his number for Louisville are much more in line with a mortal. If Byrd does get traded I would assume we'd see DuVall, some Bourgeois, maybe Yorman Rodriguez.
For those clamoring for YRod, be careful what you wish for. Reds fans give Jay Bruce down the road for being streaky, well trust me YRod will give you an entire new perspective on streaky. He can flash all five tools for a few weeks in a row and then you wonder if he even realizes that a game is being played. Offensive streaks aside, the alarming thing to me about YRod is he absolutely carries his offense into the field with him. When he is going bad at the plate he will misplay fly balls, take bad routes, get late jumps. Just bad, really bad.

BA report makes Duvall sound pretty clunky on defense, maybe a last stand in lf...

Adam Duvall has only played 10 games in the OF (all in LF) in his professional career. He has zero errors on 14 balls hit to him, for whatever that's worth. I doubt he'll be a particularly good defender, but it's not like he's ever had a serious chance to work on it. Hopefully it's easier for him than 3b.
Regarding his hitting, maybe he'll do well. But his numbers seemingly suggest a homerun-or-strikeout guy who has trouble taking walks or even making contact. He's learned to punish AAA hitters with homeruns, but I don't think MLB pitchers make mistakes nearly as often. Basically Duvall seems to represent everything Reds fans hate about Reds hitters, as far as lacking plate discipline. The biggest difference I can see between Adam Duvall and Chris Dominguez is that one was acquired by trade, the other as a minor league free agent. He's about to turn 27, and is in his 6th professional season. At that age it's unrealistic to expect him to get a lot better.
Yorman Rodriguez, on the other hand, is a young guy who is out of options next year. He's interesting, there's upside, there's room for him to improve. Sure he'll have problems, sure he'll make us want to pull our hair out sometimes, but I think he'd be interesting to watch. He'll strike out a lot, but maybe he learns something and improves. If they're in a 'youth movement', he represents youth. Maybe they can give Steve Selsky a, seeing if he can get on base, would also be interesting - he's a different type of hitter than Duvall/Dominguez. At 26 Selsky is about the same age as Adam Duvall for whatever that's worth. Of course Selsky and Yorman Rodriguez are currently on the DL.
As you can probably tell I think Keury Mella represents somewhere between 90 and 95% of the value returned in the Leake trade.

Duvall made the start in LF today for Louisville. Went 2-4 with a HR. Any errors? No, 4 or 5 put outs, 3 or 4 hits his way, but I didn't see the game so I don't have any context if he should have got to any of them or not.

I didn't attend the game or watch the webcast but did listen. Radio guy didn't heap praises on his defense, didn't knock it either. Just one game though. The color man on the radio apparently is/was the stadium PA announcer for university of Louisville baseball and commented that Duvall played some OF when in college. I assume he is correct about that. Either way he's probably a potential bench bat at the most. There was a rather cool moment in the game considering that Duvall played his high school and college ball in the city of Louisville. This was his first AB as a Bat: www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?content_id=325988883&sid=milb

There is a yahoo article about potential waiver trades, and among them is Chapman. It notes that while he is unlikely to pass waivers to a contender, a Diamondbacks trade could potentially be revived. Would a trade of:
Braden Shipley, RHP Competitive Balance A Pick (three after the Reds) Marcus Wilson, CF
Move the meter at all of getting something done? That would give the Reds a third pick in the top 40, a power arm in Shipley, and a young supplemental first round pick from 2014 who is showing some promise in the advanced rookie Pioneer League. It's an interesting thought, but something like including the pick may have been what Arizona considered too costly in the first place.

If I was the Reds I would want O'Brien along with Blair.
