"Prior to acquiring David Price, the Blue Jays were “close to a deal that fell apart near the finish line” for Carrasco, according to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca. According to Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun, the Jays offered Daniel Norris, Jeff Hoffman, and Dalton Pompey for Carrasco. Interest will presumably be strong from teams looking for more than a rental starting pitcher, but not every team could spare the young players needed to pull off a deal."
That would have been a hard deal to turn down, and I thought Walt had a high price on his guys. Wow.

Carrasco has 4 years of control on a team friendly contact, never over $9 mil/year

Yes, but he is also 28 and never thrown over 150 innings, but he does have good stuff. Still three top 50 prospects?

Carrasco has team control but he's also not very good.
Hell, I would've traded DeSclafini for that deal.

Carrasco had a 2.44 FIP last year, and 2.83 FIP this year. He strikes out over a batter an inning. The only downside is that he's never pitched more than about 130 innings in a season.
No question about it, he's better than DeSclafani. But if they really turned down Daniel Norris, Jeff Hoffman, and Dalton Pompey for him, wow, I think they're really overrating him, a starter who can't seem to come close to 200 IP.

I'm somewhat kidding. I'm a Clippers season ticket holder and have seen Carrasco pitch many, many times. He's an average starter at best. There's no way they would seriously have offered what many were discussing might be the haul for Cueto.
