The frustrating part of the hot stove season is that a seemingly committed GM with the actual intent to make improvements to his team actually can do so. Case in point, Padres GM A.J. Preller seems intent on reworking his roster and he is having success. He landed Matt Kemp and now he's hot on the trail of Wil Myers. It's easy to fall into the belief that it can't be done, but if you fully commit then maybe it can.

Jason Churchill of 1090 The Fan in Seattle reports that there are "strong indications" the Mariners are the third team involved in the Wil Myers trade talks. Churchill says that Myers could be headed to the Mariners and Taijuan Walker to the Padres in the deal, with other prospects going to the Rays. It's not clear whether he's hearing something or is just reading the tea leaves. It does make sense, as there were reports earlier in the day that the Mariners were close to trading for a hitter. Three-team deals often fall apart, but this one definitely looks to have legs. Related: Padres, Mariners Source: Jason Churchill on TwitterDec 16 - 10:05 PM

If Myers moves - it's probably to SD not SEA.

I'll wait on my final review of SD postseason, still don't think getting Kemp will do much for them in the big picture.
Walt seems to want it all. He wants a roster that has playoff potential, pieces in the farm system that set us up for the future, and be flexible in the budget. It can be viewed as "fence sitting".

Give me the GM that isn't afraid to get burned by a deal and is relentless when it comes to finding talent over the one that sits and thinks and will only pull the trigger on a deal that they think is obvious.
If not for Ruben Amero I would say Jocketty is the worst GM in the game today. There is a reason the Cardinals discarded him without a second thought.
Personally I think Krivsky was ten times the GM that Jocketty is.

The Reds aren't only running out of Free Agent options to acquire a LF'er they are also running out of time to trade for a LF'er, historically there have been very few trades made after Christmas (just 2 last year) and even fewer made between Spring Camps opening in mid February and Opening Day.
Most rosters are by and large set at the Christmas break.

AJ Prellar is making lots of trades. Didn't his predecessor, Kevin Towers, also make lots of trades, with the intent of reworking the roster? And they all just seemed to turn out badly, getting him fired? I think it's way too soon to know if Prellar's are any more successful. Making lots of moves doesn't guarantee they're going to turn out well, or make the team better.
The blockbuster Matt Kemp trade seems heavily dependent on Kemp being healthy, returning to form, and not being harmed by hitting in Petco Park. It's unclear yet what, exactly, will be involved in a Wil Myers trade, and if Myers will do better in Petco than he has in Tampa Bay.
I think we'll have to wait and see if the Padres cutting Everth Cabrera was a good idea, but I doubt it was.

What have I missed? Why are the Rays looking/willing to trade Will Myers? He hasn't been good. Plain and simple. Obviously, they have real concerns that his performance level won't be what it was projected to be.

One of the names being mentioned in the deal is Steve Souza of the Nats. ARRGGHHH!!!! He's high on my go-out-and-get list!
Still there are indications that there might be a fourth team involved in the deal. Could the Reds be it? Probably not, but I can at least fantasize about a competent GM.

You usually find interesting, under-the-radar type guys, Souza being the latest example. He'd be a good gamble for the Reds.
