Mutliple sources are reporting that VP/Asst GM Bob Miller will be leaving the team "to start his own business."
Jeff Passan tweets that a fairly comprehensive retooling will occur shortly in Redsville.
As with all good politicians, Jocko is blaming everybody but the guy in the mirror.

Possibly there are a few ex-Cardinal front office folks that are available? Some that may know where to sniff out ex-Cardinal talent for the roster?

How many Reds fans had ever heard of Bob Miller? Not many, I'd wager. I wonder if the Reds hire a young guy who might quickly look like a future candidate to take over, which none of the current assistant GMs are. Jocketty is signed through 2016, but I'm not clear what he thinks his goals are for 2017, for all we know it might be retirement. Unless somebody has heard him say differently.

I'm still not clear on what this 'business' is that Bob Miller is leaving for, but it seems like it'd add some useful content to articles about his departure.
I wonder what job Corky Miller is up for. A minor league coaching job, a minor league managing job? A job in the Reds' clubhouse (does a thirdbase coach really need any qualifications?)? A job in the Reds' front office?

I think Corky would be wasted in the front office. I'd much rather see him inspiring players on the field.

It's hard to believe that a "fairly comprehensive retooling" will occur after WJ was extended. This team needs a GM that actually solves the problems, not one who pays lip-service by acknowledging that he's aware of or addressing the problem. WJ's term as GM of this team can be summed up in one word: Ineffectual.

This is actually big news, Miller did a lot of work in the arbitration area - the Reds have 10 players on their current 40 man roster who qualify for arbitration this winter.

Strange. www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/nationals-journal/wp/2014/11/03/nationals-hire-bob-miller-as-assistant-gm/Nationals Journal Nationals hire Bob Miller as VP, assistant GMBy James Wagner November 3 at 11:46 AM The Nationals announced Monday the hiring of Bob Miller, the former Cincinnati Reds vice president and assistant general manager, to the same position in Washington. Miller, who spent nine seasons with the Reds, will assume the role left by assistant general manager Bryan Minniti, who left for the Arizona Diamondbacks, and will be key in arbitration cases, contract negotiations, rules, budgeting and player evaluations. “I’m really happy to be over here,” Miller said on Monday afternoon, his first day on the job. General Manager Mike Rizzo and I have “talked in the past about me coming over here and I’m glad things worked out this time. I’m looking forward to helping this team take the next step.” To fill the front office vacancy, Rizzo turned to a former colleague. Miller spent seven seasons with the Diamondbacks, first as assistant director of scouting and moving his way up to assistant general manager, a job he filled for the final three seasons and oversaw the minor leagues. He and Rizzo were key in overhauling the minors and were part of the team’s front office when the Diamondbacks won the 2001 World Series. Rizzo spent seven seasons with the Diamondbacks before his move to Washington in 2006. “We both started [in Arizona] on the same day in 1998,” Miller said. “We’ve worked side by side for seven years. I was his assistant for a couple years also. We had a real small office. We did everything together. We’re always very compatible and very much on the same path.” Miller, who is entering his 33rd season in professional baseball, joined the Reds in 2006. He moved up from director of baseball administration to assistant general manager and later added the title of vice president, too. During his time with the Reds, the team won two NL Central titles and made three playoff appearances. Miller left the Reds after his contract ran out following this season; moved to Clearwater, where he has family; and bought a natural pet food business, which will be run by his wife. He intended to still work for a major league front office, and hoped that a team that held spring training in Florida would come calling.Rizzo and Miller stayed in touch after they went their separate ways in 2006, running into each other at games and at the many annual baseball events. In Rizzo’s first few years in Washington, he talked to Miller about coming to Washington. Rizzo finally lured Miller to the Nationals this winter. “It’s a good job, a nice job and it’s fun to be involved with nearly every aspect of the organization on the baseball side and it’ll let me put my skills to work,” Miller said. “I think everything is top notch from the major league side to the prospects and the minor leagues. I’m real excited about joining this club.” The Post first reported the interest between the Nationals and Miller in mid-October. Miller, a graduate of the University of South Florida, said he is excited to play a key role in upcoming months as the Nationals have important decisions to make this winter. Doug Fister, Jordan Zimmermann and Ian Desmond are all candidates for long-term contract extensions. Eleven Nationals players are eligible for arbitration. Miller is regarded as a deft in both areas.

There is a tweet from John Manuel at Baseball America that Bill Bavasi has been named MLB Scouting Bureau.
I suppose that means he's leaving the Reds.

Basvasi served as the Reds VP of Scouting, Player Devolepment and International Operations.
He'll now have his hands all over the "upcoming" international draft that Selig will push his apprentice Rob Manfred to enact in the next CBA.

The Diamondbacks recently began interviews for their open scouting director position.
The position opened when the Brewers hired Ray Montgomery away from Arizona. The Diamondbacks’ eight candidates include Tim Huff (Angels), Sam Hughes (Cubs), Sean Johnson (Twins), Deric Ladnier (Nationals), Mark Snipp (Reds), Tim Wilken (Cubs), and two internal candidates, Todd Donovan and Bill Gayton.
