@ STL for 3 vs MIL for 3 vs PIT for 3
All of these teams are fighting for playoff positioning/spots. If they Reds can go 72-90, that should be good for a top 5 draft pick.

I can. Every team has that occasional year where everyone seemingly gets injured, and our lack of depth means it hurts us more than, say, the Dodgers or Angels.

However, if the Reds go 72-90, I'd bet that San Diego (70), Philadelphia (70), Chicago Sox (69), Chicago Cubs (68) should win as many or more. The Astros (67), Red Sox (66) and Twins (65) could still mathematically do it as well. Probably top 6 or 7 pick...

It's in the Reds best long term interests to lose every game the rest of this season. Higher draft picks, more draft pool money, and more international draft pool money.

We're still #12 in the reverse standings - which means we would still have to surrender a draft pick to sign a free agent with a qualifying offer (not that we are going to sign such a player).
We are within striking distance of the Padres (tied but have one more win), half a game ahead of the Phillies, and a game and half ahead of the White Sox.
To get to the Cubs and beyond would mean that one of the other cellar-dwellers will have to get hot.
But honestly, the biggest advantage at this point to having a really bad record (and I'm hoping we can slip below even the Cubs) is to convince Farmer Bob that change is needed on high.

If they lose these games, that's the way it goes, but I don't accept it as part of an interest or strategy. I don't think it's ever in the city's interest to have its name on something embarrassingly bad or to appear indifferent to or supportive of it...
It means something to me that the away uniforms just say Cincinnati on them; I don't want to see them advertising a loser's attitude...

I think if you had to rank biggest disappointments for the MLB season, Reds are #1. Jocketty needs to be fired. They fired the wrong guy with Dusty.
Now I know what people meant by Dusty being a "player's manager". Price sure as hell doesn't get anything out of the players. Should have kept him at pitching coach and hired a real manager. Typical cheap Reds. Oh yeah, but they can sign a boinking FemaleCat who can barely walk to $250 million.
If Votto is a half decent guy, he gives some money back to this team. Oh yeah, he'd rather talk about how he isn't the same guy he used to be, to rub it in to Reds fans.

Only because of that (.659 W%) 27 W - 14 L run they had in June. The other 3/4's of the year they've been an awful (.389 W%) 44 W - 69 L team.

You can't pick and choose samples.
