"Reds right-handed pitching prospect Nick Howard made his professional debut with Low-A Dayton on Friday. Howard faced four batters, striking out one while pitching a perfect seventh inning, picking up the win. After playing third base and making 12 starts for Virginia in 2012, he became Virginia's closer in 2014, employing a mid-to-upper-90s fastball and 12-to-6 curveball to dominate batters in short bursts. The Reds are going to develop Howard as a starting pitcher, and, if his slider and change-up can turn into average offerings, he could be a frontline starter."

So, like Mike Lorenzen he's starting out his career as a reliever before shifting to the rotation next spring? Neat. Lorenzen jumped the whole way from the Arizona rookie league to AA last year right after being drafted... and Nick Howard started his career in single A, and who knows where he'll wind up... maybe AA also. Maybe Franklin will be in Dayton all year. It'll be interesting to watch.
